Forget the 12 days of Christmas and start the 12 day countdown to Twixtmas.
A campaign to encourage 'binge doing' during Twixtmas - the five days between Christmas and New Year, December 27-December 31, has been launched by social enterprise, the Flexible Thinking Forum.
Most people have time on their hands during Twixtmas and the not-for-profit campaign is aiming to encourage everyone to make the most of the opportunity to take small practical actions to make the world better, not only for themselves but others too.
Instead of binge shopping or binge drinking, the campaign is hoping to encourage binge doing and overcome the problem of 'time poverty' - where people perceive they do not have enough time to do things for themselves or others.
Andy Green, from the Flexible Thinking Forum, said: "The campaign offers an ideal opportunity to spend sometime helping others and also helping yourself. For the rest of the year, people often find themselves with too little time on their hands to do something worthwhile, whether that's spending real quality time with family or even just having a little 'me-time'. You could also do some volunteering, charity or community work.
"There are 12 days left until Twixtmas so people have plenty of time to start thinking about how they can use the time wisely."
To help people get the most of Twixtmas, the campaign has themed each of the five days with a focus:
The first day of Twixtmas is about spoiling yourself and thinking more positively about you.
The second day of Twixtmas is to do something for someone else, help a neighbour or good cause.
The third day of Twixtmas is to help a friend or maybe get in touch with someone you have not called in a while.
The fourth day of Twixtmas is about doing something for the planet.
The fifth day of Twixtmas is to do something for your future, maybe think about your goals for 2011.
The campaign website www.twixtmas.com offers practical advice and inspiration to encourage everyone to make the most of this time.
